DESCRIPTION:This evening will be an EVENT – dress as fabulously as you can imagine\, and bring or make a mask. \nDances will be from the French balfolk tradition – think of contra or swing dancing with a lot of freedom and improvisation. \nMusic by MALVEN \nDances called and taught by Mary Wesley \nAll dances will be taught in the first hour\, and the rest of the night is for kicking up your heels and finding a joyful freedom in the music! \nThis evening is an official Prom-Alternative. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a Burlington Balfolk party! This participatory dance form is fun and easy to learn\, especially with friendly instruction and hypnotic live music. All dances are taught by local dance leader Mary Wesley; no partner or prior experience needed. \n“Balfolk” refers to the recent revival of popular social dances from Western Europe\, with an emphasis on traditional “folk” dances from France. Bourrées\, an dros\, gavottes\, mazurkas\, waltzes\, scottishes — a mix of partner dances\, group dances\, entrancing chain dances. \nHailing from Vermont and Québec\, our band\, Triton\, offers music rooted in the traditional dance repertoire of Northwestern Europe\, moving body and soul alike. \nCurious about balfolk?
