Dancing continues from 7:30-10PM. \nPortland Intown Contra Dance enriches lives and cultivates a vibrant community through dance. \nOur series is delightful\, welcoming to all humans\, and a heck of a lot of fun. We gather every Thursday night for zesty\, joyful dancing on the peninsula in Portland\, Maine\, host special events\, and find ways to enjoy each other’s company when we’re not on the floor. We’re teaching and practicing traditions\, contributing to an evolving art form\, and welcoming new dancers to our community every week. \nWe dance with partners and with everybody in the room. It doesn’t matter what gender you are — you can boogie in both dance roles! \nCome alone or bring a friend!

DESCRIPTION:Come dance with us in the beautiful Hallowell City Hall Ballroom on the fourth Saturday of the month. Contra Dancing has been a Maine tradition for over 300 years\, and it’s still fun and popular. We dance to awesome live music from some of the finest traditional musicians in Maine (and from away). All dances are taught and called\, and the basic step is just walking to the beat\, so it’s real easy to learn as you go. There is a brief newcomer’s orientation at the beginning of the dance if you get there at 7 pm. All ages and levels of experience are welcome. If it isn’t fun\, we’re not doing it right.
